10 Most Brutal Deaths In Harry Potter Movies

4. Tortured And Fed To Nagini (Charity Burbage)

The death of Charity Burbage is another case where the cause of death itself was painless, but the circumstances surrounding it earn it a place on this list.

In her adult life, Burbage was a Muggle Studies teacher at Hogwarts school, but that changed when she was captured by Voldemort just before the events of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1.

Voldemort isn't exactly a big fan of the non-magic folk, and so, he took some of this anger out on Burbage. When we first see her in the film, she's suspended above a table full of Death Eaters, who show nothing but disdain and disgust at her presence. Even worse, the cuts on her face indicate that she's already been subjected to some form of torture, which takes place off-screen.

After being mocked and berated by Voldemort, Burbage spots fellow professor Severus Snape and begs him to help her, but because he cannot blow his cover, he's forced to watch as Voldemort kills Burbage and commands Nagini to eat her corpse.

Even though the Killing Curse is painless, it's not Burbage's cause of death that makes this a brutal and grisly demise overall: it's the fact that she was tortured, humiliated, made to feel completely helpless and alone, killed, and then fed to a snake.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
