3. A Knife Wound (Dobby)

Probably the most heartbreaking death in the series, Dobby met his downfall after rescuing Harry and the gang from the bowels of Malfoy Manor. Just when it looks like this mission has been completed successfully, it's revealed that Bellatrix's knife made contact with Dobby right before he escaped, causing him to die in Harry's arms shortly afterwards.

Bleeding out from a stab wound isn't a pleasant way to go no matter which way you shake it, and even worse, he suffered for a solid minute to boot - unlike a lot of the other characters on this list, his death wasn't even quick.

Plus, not only was Dobby's untimely end painful for him physically, but it was immensely painful for the friends that had to watch him die, as well as for us, the audience. He was nothing but caring, brave and charming throughout each of his appearances in the franchise, and it was hard to let go of such a kind-hearted soul in a manner as barbaric as this one.
