10 Most Brutal Star Wars Movie Deaths

7. The Rival Gangs (The Force Awakens)

Cause Of Death: Eaten alive by a Rathtar.

One of Episode VII's weaker moments also gives us one of the series' most savage death scenes, as multiple members of the rival gangs that confront Han Solo aboard his freighter are eaten alive by a bloodthirsty, remorseless, rather hungry couple of Rathtars.

The movie glosses over each kill by focusing on Rey and Finn's escape, but when you stop and think about it, it really would be a horrible way to go. Their mouths are lined with razor-sharp teeth and it's not like you'll be dead, or unconscious, before you're gobbled up; you'll be able to feel every second as it chews you to pieces or swallows you whole.

The scene ends with Han, Chewie, Rey and Finn narrowly escaping in the Millenium Falcon, meaning that somewhere out there, there's an abandoned freighter just floating in space with a few peckish beasts on board.

Perhaps this isn't the last we'll see of the Rathtars throughout the Star Wars saga...

In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too.
