10 Most Brutal Star Wars Movie Deaths

6. Mace Windu (Revenge Of The Sith)

Cause Of Death: Hand chopped off, electrocuted, thrown from a great height.

Samuel L. Jackson is known for playing tough, badass characters, and his turn as Mace Windu in the prequel trilogy proved no different; the Jedi Master was strong and powerful, so it was rather saddening, and rather shocking, to see him meet his end in such a horrifying way.

After confronting and successfully overpowering Emperor Palpatine, Windu attempts to land the killing blow with his lightsaber - only to have his hand chopped off by Anakin, who wants the Emperor to live. Windu is then quickly attacked by Palpatine's Force lightning before being blasted out a nearby window, falling to his death in the city below.

Of course, Windu will have had a rather painful few seconds of contemplation before he splatted against the ground, time which we can only imagine was filled with the emotional trauma of being betrayed, the physical agony of the severed hand and electro-blast and the pure, unbridled fear as the ground quickly came up to meet him.

Poor guy.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
