6. Elimination - Circle (2015)

Written and directed by Aaron Hann and Mario MIscione, Circle sees a group of 50 strangers wake to find themselves arranged in - you guessed it - a circle. They each stand on a designated spot with arrows on the floor pointing to each of them from a strange contraption in the centre.

It doesn’t take long for them to figure out the rules: they're supposed to use the arrows to vote on which of them is killed next. If nobody votes, the machine chooses someone at random. Likewise, they’re instantly killed if they step off their spot.

Circle is a gripping (if a somewhat on-the-nose) examination of society. The contestants comprised of varying ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds are representations of distinct social groups who're ultimately left to decide which of them are worthy of life.

However, with only two minutes between each round, alongside a young girl and pregnant woman being part of the experiment, tensions quickly escalate as their numbers dwindle.

Though the execution is a little rough around the edges, Circle nevertheless instils complex philosophical questions into one simple game that nobody would find enjoyable to play.
