Star Trek Borg

The Best Of Both Worlds will forever remain an iconic tentpole in Star Trek's history. The Borg had already been established as devastatingly powerful, so their arrival at the borders of Federation Space was met with equal parts dismay and fear. The kidnap and transformation of Jean-Luc Picard into Locutus offered audiences one of the greatest cliffhangers in television history.

While the events of the second part of the story see Picard rescued from the Collective, there is a final shot that sends a true shiver down the audience's spine. While discussing the various repairs and refits that the Enterprise-D is going to require, Picard and Riker share something of a wan smile. As Riker leaves the room, Picard lifts his cup as though to drink from it.

Then, he places it down. He stands and walks to the window. The camera pulls back, showing this giant of a Starfleet officer, covered in bandages and scars, made small now by the Borg violation. The music plays out on a mournful note, letting the audience know that, despite appearances, the captain is very, very far from fine.
