10 Most Controversial Award Ceremony Moments Of All Time

4. Sacheen Littlefeather

11.03.2013sacheen 2 Marlon Brando or Liv Ullman's gown - I don't know which was the most terribly OTT thing about the 1973 Oscars. Brando refused his Oscar for his role in Godfather in a most spectacular fashion. He sent Sacheen Littlefeather, a Native American activist up to refuse his award on his behalf on the basis that Hollywood negatively stereotyped Native Americans. This was a bit of a joke seeing as Sacheen was dressed up in full Native American garb looking very stereotypical. She should have opted for a Christian Dior gown to make her point. Nevertheless despite this show of petulance, the Academy still thought enough of Brando to nominate him the next year for Last Tango in Paris. A great moment for the Oscars.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
