10 Most Controversial Batman Movie Moments

6. The Flash-Fighting - Batman Begins

Batman Forever
Warner Bros.

After years of laying dormant after the clusterfuck that was Batman & Robin, Warner Bros. decided it was finally time to revive the property in a big way.

A young, up-and-coming director by the name of Chris Nolan was set to tackle writing and directing this new origin story for the character and to completely reboot the character. And the resulting film, Batman Begins, was an astounding success. The film was widely praised for Nolan's direction, the grounded story, and Christian Bale's performance as Batman.

But one element that was not so beloved was Nolan's use of flash-cutting in the action scenes. Nolan and crew came to refer to this as 'flash fighting' and was employed anytime Batman fought someone, with the edit cutting wildly from shot-to-shot in an attempt to convey the sense of adrenaline and danger rather than actually showing much of anything with any clarity.

The results are horrid and weaken an otherwise great film. Nolan would come to vehemently oppose this style of editing in later years, with both of his subsequent Batman films going the exact opposite route, focusing on clarity-driven long-takes.
