10 Most Controversial Batman Movie Moments
5. Return To Gotham - The Dark Knight Rises
Oh, boy.
Following the gut-busting success of The Dark Knight, Nolan returned to wrap up his trilogy of Bat-films and had a lot to live up to. Even just a few years removed from The Dark Knight, it was already being treated as sacred ground and a masterclass of comic book cinema. Heck, its critical acclaim and subsequent snubbing at the Academy Awards pretty much single-handedly led to the expansion of the Best Picture category.
So The Dark Knight Rises was always going to have a rocky road ahead of it. But when it released, there seemed to be one 'plot hole' that no one could shut up about, and that was how Bruce Wayne got back to Gotham. After Bane takes over Gotham, destroying every way in-or-out, Batman is somehow able to get back in just in time for the third act so he can fight Bane once more.
The only details the film gives us is how he escapes from the underground prison he was being held in, and then the next time we see him, he's in Gotham. Honestly, this doesn't seem like such a huge deal, but people will still not shut up about this.
Doesn't seem like such a stretch to say that Wayne was able to find his own way back in, especially considering all of the other unbelievable feats he's accomplished across these films, but people lost their s**t over the fact that the movie didn't explicitly spell it out for them.
