10 Most Creative Movie Trailers Ever Made
2. Red Eye's Curveball Promo
Filmmakers don't necessarily have to shoot new footage to create an effective trailer. Sometimes it's about presenting the existing footage in a unique and surprising way.
Horror master Wes Craven did this to great effect ahead of Red Eye's release in 2005. The movie's debut trailer tricked the audience into thinking they were being sold a trite romantic comedy, depicting a chance encounter between Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy at an airport, set against upbeat music.
Only towards the end of the video did it reveal its true nature with a sharp tonal shift which plotted a course straight for horror territory. Who would have guessed this was a film about a hotel manager who finds herself on board the flight from hell, at the mercy of a deranged psychopath who seems to know everything about her?
Craven's name among the credits hinted at the chilling scenes to come, but it's fair to say Red Eye duped everyone with this curveball trailer.
