10 Most Criminally Underrated British Horror Movies

2. The Hallow

Eden Lake
Entertainment One

Packed full of nasty practical effects and grisly little creatures, The Hallow is an Irish fairy tale with none of the whimsy, facing off a couple and their newborn child with monsters in the woods as they fight for their own survival. Warned by the locals of the mysterious 'Hallow' that don't take kindly to trespassers, the pair obviously ignore them as they traipse around the area, and create a whole load of problems for themselves in the process.

Namely, a bunch of evil baby-stealing sprites full of infectious fungus and sharp claws.

The Hallow is a brilliantly paced little movie, quickly churning out a world of horror that starts as whispers and rumours and devolves into a full blown invasion by vengeful fae folk. As soon as they make their presence truly known, we already know its too late - and its a case of buckling up for the rest of the particularly gruesome ride.

Helpful reminder: never look directly through the keyhole if you don't know what's on the other side. It might look back. Or poke really hard.
