10 Most Cringeworthy Onscreen Kisses In The History Of Movies
7. Drew Barrymore And Tom Skerritt - Poison Ivy
This semi-erotic thriller was a hit at the 1992 Sundance Film Festival, and became something of a cult classic once it hit cable. And you have to believe its popularity was achieved, at least in part, because of its controversial nature.
The film's titular seductress, Drew Barrymore, was only 16-years-old when she filmed her sex scenes with a 50-year-old Tom Skerritt. Toss in her make-out scenes with Sara Gilbert, who was just 17 at the time, and Poison Ivy had garnered plenty of media attention following its limited theatrical release.
Even if you were somehow able to set aside the significant age difference and statutory implications of it all, there's also the small matter of Skerritt's character being married to a wheelchair-bound hypochondriac. It's impossible not to think of this poor woman when he's out writhing around in the rain with this teenage coquette.
But character motivations aside, the whole ordeal looks painfully awkward. Skerritt is all mustache, as he seems to think kissing is done entirely with the upper lip. The pouring rain - which is supposed to guarantee an extra layer of sexiness in these instances - seems to give both actors some trouble, too.
