6. Poltergeist

The Conjuring
MGM/UA

As it has been said, Poltergeist released in 1982 did not end well for many involved, including Heather O'Rouke only a few years after its controversial debut because of the themes it included.

Known for it's plot surrounding the dead and the graves that they reside in, Poltergeist features a family who move in to a home that they soon realise is filled with spirits that have not been able to move on because of the mass grave built under their property. For many, that plot is spooky enough, but the corners cut by the production crew may have set off even worse fates for those involved.

For the famous scene in which Diane finds herself in her family's swimming pool surrounded by the dead's skeletons and skulls, actress JoBeth Williams was notified after the scene was completed that these were all real human remains which subsequently creeped out everyone involved including the actress herself unsurprisingly.

Child star Oliver Robbins claimed she nearly died by being choked by an 'evil puppet' on set and most famously, Heather O'Rouke died from a cardiac arrest and septic shock with an undiagnosed intestinal disease soon after the film came out.
