8. Pacific Rim - The Kaiju
Capable of destroying entire cities simply by marching through them, these creatures are only interested in turning planet Earth into rubble.
After the Kaiju emerge from an interdimensional portal at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean - the Breach - and start pillaging our planet, humans create gigantic robots called Jaegers to combat the aliens.
The term Kaiju means “strange beast” in Japanese and originally referred to creatures from ancient Japanese legends.
Indeed, these aliens are sheer force and strength. They have no superpowers, but throw fishing boats around like toys and plow through cities on rampages.
As it turns out, they are messengers, linked to their overlords from another dimension and operating through a hive mind that eventually helps them gain human knowledge.
The only way to remove these creatures from the planet is to close the Breach, which the humans eventually and painstakingly succeed in doing.
More intelligent and insidious than they first appear, the Kaiju are the lore coming from the deepest recesses of our nightmares.
