10 Most Disappointing Harry Potter Movie Moments
1. The Quidditch World Cup – The Goblet Of Fire
There are three lengthy chapters set at the Quidditch World Cup in Rowling’s original story. There’s so much detail given about the layout of the campsite, the anti-Muggle security, the match itself, the Death Eaters, and the impact of the Dark Mark.
In the movie, on the other hand, the entirety of the Quidditch World Cup section lasts about ten minutes. Ludo Bagman doesn’t even make an appearance despite how entertaining he is, and the actual match is a complete joke. Cornelius Fudge starts the game by saying ‘let the match begin’, and then the film cuts straight to the celebrations back in the campsite.
To make matters worse, the whole subplot of Harry’s wand being stolen and then discovered in the hands of Barty Crouch’s House-elf is also missing. This has a knock-on effect later on and makes the reveal at the end of the movie lack impact.
Those who’ve only seen the movies will never appreciate just how brilliant the Quidditch World Cup is in the original novel. It’s packed with excitement and brilliant plot details that would’ve been wonderful to experience on screen.
