10 Most Disappointing Harry Potter Movie Moments

7. Dumbledore’s Backstory – The Deathly Hallows Part 2

Midway through the second part of the Deathly Hallows, Harry, Ron and Hermione are saved by Aberforth (Dumbledore’s brother) and take refuge inside the Hog’s Head.

At this point in the film, there is some information offered about Dumbledore’s past, but it’s quite vague. Aberforth criticises the task Dumbledore set for Harry and he mentions how his brother’s quest for power resulted in the death of his sister Ariana. It’s a shame there isn’t more dialogue here because Ciarán Hinds gives a great performance despite how little time he’s on screen.

In the novel, there is much more detail about Dumbledore’s relationship with his family and Grindelwald. Due to Rita Skeeter publishing a biography of Dumbledore earlier on, the reader already knows some parts of his backstory but has no confirmation about how accurate they are. As such, Aberforth’s monologue is satisfying and informative as well as emotional.

Given The Deathly Hallows Part 2 is one of the shorter Harry Potter movies, the filmmakers could easily have given Dumbledore’s backstory more time in the limelight.
