9. James Bond - On Her Majesty's Secret Service
George Lazenby was never going to have an easy time, given that he agreed to take on the role of what was then considered to be the most popular character to have ever graced the cinema screen. And I doubt that barely anyone could genuinely claim that they weren't disappointed with the Australian actor when he first appeared in
On Her Majesty's Secret Service as James Bond. There's just something missing. The confidence, maybe. The fact that Bond also happened to be Lazenby's first ever proper acting gig really shows, as he drifts in and out of "acting" and insists on occasionally doing the opposite of that: not acting, if you will. Though I'm only really a huge fan of Sean Connery and Daniel Craig's interpretations of Ian Fleming's iconic super spy, anyway, the inconsistencies inherent to Lazenby's overly shoddy performance are far too distracting to consider this a successful actor to actor transition. Sean Connery
was James Bond... Lazenby, a pale imitation.
