10 Most Disappointing Horror Movie Remakes

5. Poltergeist (2015)

If you're going to come for Tobe Hooper, you better not miss - especially if it's with one of his most beloved and famous 80s movies right after The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the spooky family horror Poltergeist. Whilst those two movies might have wildly different tones, they're both indicative of just how influential Hooper has been to the industry over his active years as a filmmaker - which means they're wide open goals for chewing up and spitting back out again with a 21st century twist on them.

Poltergeist could have done something fantastic. Where the original was a family-friendly fright fest, Gil Kenan's take could have potentially trodden a scarier path, intensifying the frights or switching up elements to offer a new and terrifying take on the old ghost story. Instead, we got a remix of all our favourite images from the original without any of the sting that the 1982 movie loaded into its tail, left with a bland story as riveting as watching TV static.
