10 Most Disappointing Horror Movie Sequels
8. It: Chapter 2
There was a time where the 2017 iteration of the infamous Stephen King clown was doubted. Then the film came out and blew everyone’s expectations out of the water. Bill Skarsgård’s nightmare inducing performance, coupled with the brilliant young cast who portrayed The Losers Club cemented this updated vision into pop culture for horror fans and casual viewers alike.
It’s hardly surprising that the hype for the sequel skyrocketed once it was announced, alongside the fantastic casting of the adult Losers, including James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain and Bill Hader.
Then 2019 rolled around, and instead of a tightly knit, heartfelt story about overcoming oneself and the fears of growing up, we were given a bloated and confusing story. Rituals, love triangles and rather lukewarm scares left many a viewer feeling a tad short-changed. Plus, we didn’t even get a peep of the giant space turtle that featured in the novel!
Aside from some standout performances (particularly Hader’s heart wrenching performance as Richie Tozier) it is unfortunate that the nearly three-hour long film didn’t pack the same emotionally charged and horrific punch that the first chapter did.
