10 Most Disappointing Horror Movie Sequels
2. Alien 3
Ridley Scott’s Alien and its sequel (the imaginatively titled Aliens) are without a doubt, some of the greatest horror films ever made. The Alien franchise after these two films has become a beast more confusing than any Xenomorph variation or hybrid.
Whilst Prometheus, Covenant and even Resurrection are pretty varied – let’s not even mention the Alien vs. Predator movies – it’s Alien 3 that takes the spot on this list. Similarly to the Conjuring 3, as it directly followed the brilliance of Aliens, it feels like more of a disappointment.
We should have known that Alien 3 was going to be a gut punch from the moment franchise darling Newt was unceremoniously killed off, and aside from Sigourney Weaver’s iconic buzzcut, the film offered nothing that had previously made the Alien films so special.
It almost felt like a generic slasher film with two dimensional characters, sexual violence and the xenomorph somehow coming across like an average horror movie villain. Perhaps the biggest shame, at least personally, is the move from practical effects to mostly cgi being used to show the iconic creature.
