10 Most Disappointing Horror Movie Sequels
3. Book Of Shadows: Blair Witch 2
Insert overdone introduction about how the Blair Witch Project influenced the found-footage subgenre here.
Right, now that’s out the way, and I’m sure by now you’re sick of hearing how good and clever of a film The Blair Witch Project is, let’s talk about the sequel.
Obviously, it had the initial problem of lacking the marketing campaign that contributed to the success of the original film: everyone now knew the Blair Witch wasn’t real, so where could the filmmakers go from there? It could’ve been an incredibly clever venture into meta-fiction, which writer Joe Berlinger states was the original plan before it was altered in post-production, but unfortunately it was severely disappointing.
The film itself is a pretty crap horror movie, relying on tired cliches and then not executing them particularly well. If it were just any old early 2000s horror flick it may well have faded into obscurity, or just been remembered for being bizarre, yet there is a bitter taste in the mouth when we remember this is in fact a sequel to one of the greatest modern horror movies.
