Fans were overjoyed when Joss Whedon introduced Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and genuinely shocked when he sacrificed himself to save Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) from Ultron's gunfire.

As much as Pietro's death subverted expectations, fans of the character were understandably flummoxed, that a name actor was cast to play an iconic superhero only for him to die before we ever really got to know him.

Granted, Quickie's extreme power-set creates balance issues in a franchise already teeming with them, but it felt like Whedon barely scratched the surface of the character and especially his relationship with his sister Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen).

It's possible Whedon was motivated to off Pietro quickly due to a competing version of the character in the X-Men franchise, but even so, it's a damn shame we never got more from the MCU's iteration.
