10 Most Disappointing MCU Moments
6. The MCU's First Openly Gay Character - Avengers: Endgame
Avengers: Endgame was the first MCU movie to feature an openly gay character, and oh, what a slap in the face it was.
The character in question is a grieving man - literally credited as "Grieving Man" (and played by co-director Joe Russo) - who is a member of Cap's (Chris Evans) post-snap support group, and mentions that he recently went on a date with a man but couldn't cope.
Given that the MCU is the world's biggest movie franchise and likes to pride itself on its diversity, it's pretty embarrassing that this forgettable, one-off character passes for inclusion.
With Disney's infuriating track record of only insinuating LGBT characters in their movies in ways which can be easily cut for "less-progressive" markets, it's a shame that the highest-grossing film of all time didn't take a more overt stand for proper representation.
If Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) really is gay, would it hurt for us to see that? The MCU is clogged up with enough mediocre heterosexual romance that it sure would be nice to see something a little more forward-thinking.
Though Kevin Feige confirmed that Valkyrie will "find her queen" in Thor: Love and Thunder, it remains to be seen whether or not they have the courage of their convictions to that end, which to date they absolutely have not.
