5. Chronicles Of Riddick
David Twohy's follow-up to Pitch Black took everything that was good about the original, ignored it and instead began to tell a grand tale that spanned galaxies and would become a trilogy. Twohy allegedly said this was to be essentially The Lord Of The Rings to Pitch Black's The Hobbit. Not quite, hey Dave? I absolutely loved Pitch black, it was an atmospheric and creepy little sci-fi tale with a menacing performance from Vin Diesel as the anti-hero Riddick, his whole appeal coming from the fact that despite being a murdering shit, he was the only one who could help the stranded survivors escape the alien nasties that stalked them in the dark. Chronicles tries to make him into some sort of messiah who will save the galaxy and it just didn't work. The dialogue was horrific and the set-pieces all too grand and not pulled off with any skill, it is a film which wasted a good cast by attempting to be something it most certainly is not.
