10 Most Disturbing British Movies Ever
8. A Clockwork Orange
The earliest and most accomplished film on this list, 1971's A Clockwork Orange is The Shining helmer Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of Anthony Burgess' controversial sci fi dystopia novel of the same name.
Whilst far more polished than most of the entries here, the slick filmmaking and recognisable face of future genre legend Malcolm McDowell as the film's twisted anti-villain Alex DeLarge do nothing to make this bleak blackly comic psychological horror any more palatable.
Following a volatile murderous rapist as he cuts a swathe through London only to be caught and brutally "re-educated" by force, leaving him a gibbering spineless shell of a man, this brutal film may be beautifully lensed and fantastically acted but it's also the most hopeless flick on this list, and one which leaves the viewer shook and troubled.
