10 Most Disturbing British Movies Ever

From the sublime to the ridiculous.

Where Kubrick’s unsparing dystopia warned viewers against simple solutions to social unrest and advocated for a more cerebral treatment of the complex issue, the 2008 hoodie horror Eden Lake seems content to say “It’s time to nuke anywhere in Britain with a lower-than-average median income from orbit for our safety”.

Still, this is a list of the most disturbing British films, not the most politically astute.

Before Attack the Block made hoodies heroes, this horror from The Woman in Black helmer James Watkins succeeded in making British youths seem more irredeemably evil than the devil himself thanks to the vicious tortures which a gang of young ne’er-do-wells inflict upon Michael Fassbender and his partner Michelle Williams.

Bleak and brutal, this sharp and horrific slice of survival horror is not for the faint of heart.
