10 Most Divisive Movies Of 2019
3. Godzilla: King Of The Monsters
For the hardcore Godzilla crowd, King of the Monsters delivered a healthy helping of the monster mayhem they felt they were denied in Gareth Edwards' oddly restrained 2014 movie.
But for casuals, the fan service just wasn't worth sitting through the horribly scripted scenes involving humans, which when not dreadfully boring dared to be head-smackingly stupid.
Furthermore, the action sequences aren't even that good: many of them are obscured by rain and fog, and the decision to constantly cross-cut between the epic destruction and those pesky humans made it tough to get fully invested in the carnage.
Godzilla fans will insist it's a fine enough movie if you just put your brain in neutral and soak in the stylish action, but for many, it was simply exhaustingly soulless and idiotic.
With its disappointing box office performance, Warner Bros. is now in full-on panic mode where their "MonsterVerse" is concerned, having just delayed the already-filmed Godzilla vs. Kong by eight months to next November.
