10 Most Embarrassing Fake Accents In Movie History

7. Julia Roberts - Mary Reilly

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jb87JTGoMg Mary Reilly is about a chambermaid called Mary Reilly who serves the iconic Dr. Henry Jekyll (as played by John Malkovich). Julia Roberts plays Mary Reilly, who we are told is an Irish woman, though she sounds more like she's learning to speak English after a horrible accent and is struggling with it (a lot). Either that, or she's been told that speaking in an Irish accent means "speaking really quickly and making sure you sound insane." Roberts is renowed for her uncanny ability to not be able to do an accent other than an American one (Boo! Down with her, then!), but this attempt at Irish certainly takes the prize: she sounds as though she's cobbled the accent together on a whim or taken lessons from Sean Connery (see lower down the list). Sean Connery is Scottish.
