10 Most Embarrassing Movie Scenes To Watch With Your Mum

7. Parenthood

Another film families would sit and watch whenever it screened on TV (this never seemed to be off the screen during the 90s), Parenthood features mild sexual content young men just can't stand to watch with their mum.

Young Garry (played by a fresh-faced Joaquin Phoenix) has a secret for much of the film, continually leaving the house with a suspicious brown bag in his hands. His mother suspects he's up to no good and eventually searches his room, where she finds a collection of dirty VHS tapes hidden in the cases of 'real' movies.

When she promptly watches one, we don't see full-on sex, but there's still enough rudeness to embarrass us all. The subsequent conversation, in which Keanu Reeves' Tod relates the details of Garry's masturbatory habits to his mother, is equally unbearable.

As a male of any age, this is mortifying to sit through with your own mum beside you. It's worse, though, when boys are in their early teens and starting to discover certain things about themselves. As mums will be fully-aware of these changes and no doubt want to discuss them, awkwardness has abounded in many a living room during familial screenings of Parenthood.

Curse you, Ron Howard!
