In 2011, he revealed his neck was in such a bad physical state that he'd have no choice but to retire immediately - a moment that was tearful for both fans and Edge himself. The next show, they put a tribute package that celebrated the career of Edge which was just as emotional as Edge's last promo. It was the sudden nature of this announcement that made it so abrupt, sad and emotional. There was no goodbye run or big last match, in one night he went from being the perfectly healthly World Heavyweight Champion, but the very next night he was no longer fit to compete. The sad thought of Edge no longer on our TV screens was one we'd have to get immediately used to, while a vignette of his best moments only made us more aware of the fact that his career's now in the history books.
