The movie had done a decent job of teasing the epic battle between these behemoths, and now it was time to deliver. Finally seeing the pair square off in the city of Hong Kong easily lived up to the expectations granted by their previous fight. It did so by adding some great new developments, like the neon city lighting, open space and Kong's new weapon.
Specific highlights include the pre-fight face-off, Kong stopping Godzilla's atomic breath by jamming his weapon into his mouth, Kong swinging from building to building to avoid an onslaught from his opponent and the final axe shot knocking Godzilla down.
This was an epic fight that put the pair on equal footing, as Kong's axe matched the atomic breath of Godzilla, forcing the pair to think uniquely about their strategies, and it concluded with a great surprise of Kong getting the victory, and Nathan (Alexander Skarsgard) coolly stating "looks like round two goes to Kong".
It was easy to see how this would have been their last bout, as it was enormous and filled with great action, but they weren't done yet.
