10 Most Exciting Upcoming Movies Announced This Year

5. JoJo Rabbit

Star Wars Return Of The Jedi Boba Fett
Fox Searchlight

After delivering the likes of Thor: Ragnarok, Hunt For The Wilderpeople and What We Do In The Shadows, Taika Waititi has proven he's one of the best comedic directors working today.

Whether you find his movies funny or not, it's undeniable that his style is unique and instantly recognisable in an Edgar Wright sort of way, and his next movie - Jojo Rabbit - looks like his zaniest, most irreverent offering to date.

As he usually likes to do, Waititi will both direct and star in this one, playing a version of Adolf Hitler who is the imaginary friend of a troubled 10-year-old boy. Yes, you read that right. The boy misses his father, and under the influence of Nazi propaganda, mentally creates a figure who is a weird blend of his daddy and the führer.

It's currently filming, and the cast includes Oscar-winner Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson, Rebel Wilson, and Game Of Thrones' Alfie Allen. It's expected to open sometime next year, and oddly, could be one of the very first releases under a Disney-owned Fox. Imagine that.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
