Horror movies are enjoying something of a golden period at the moment, with low-budget hits from Blumhouse sitting comfortably alongside bigger studio fare like Evil Dead and the Conjuring series.

The latter - from director-writer-producer James Wan - is arguably the gold standard for modern horror, and Wan himself, who's directed some of the best mainstream movies in recent memory, is an integral part of its success.

So the fact that he's spearheading a reboot of 1990's horror-comedy Arachnophobia can only mean it'll be awesome, right? The original movie - about a species of deadly spiders infesting a small town - is perfect reboot material, and since there are literally no good spider movies on this scale right now (and, well, no good spider movies full-stop), it should be easy for it to capture the attention of general moviegoers.

Wan is a Hollywood powerhouse and he's better at horror than just about anyone, so with his oversight (he's on producing duties), Arachnophobia will probably make all of us hate spiders even more than we already do.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
