It’s fashionable for fans to knock Ben Affleck’s Daredevil movie, but you have to give the film its due: it’s a thousand times more palatable than this spin-off.

Only a very forgiving viewer would call Elektra a good story well told, full of breath-taking action and impressive fight choreography. Even at 96 minutes, the movie’s a groan, loaded with cod psychology (Elektra had it tough as a kid), dull fight scenes and actors that look like they’d rather be elsewhere. Cast as the world’s deadliest female assassin, Jennifer Garner doesn’t exactly rival our memories of Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, but she sure knows how to wear a skimpy costume.

Elektra died in Daredevil, but the filmmakers have a top-of-the-line explanation for why she’s still wandering around killing people. When one character says, “That woman died years ago”, his colleague replies, “Well, then, somebody must’ve brought her back from the dead.”

The film landed with a thud at the box office, too.
