7. The Pendulum Trap (Saw V)
Thus far, each trap discussed has shown something horrifying thanks to the bloodshed and painful implications, but this one makes it here thanks to how over-the-top it is. Seeing someone's skin torn off is bad enough, but watching as a human body is cut in half like an unlucky action man figure is truly disgusting.
Saw V wastes no time at all, as it opens on a man - Seth Baxter - chained to a table in the middle of a warehouse. He awakens to a video from Jigsaw ordering him to crush his hands in two adjacent presses to stop a swinging pendulum axe from cutting his body in half.
After some struggle, he gets on with it and shoves his hands into the contraptions, crushing them completely. But, the pendulum doesn't stop, and you're shown in agonising detail as the axe reaches Seth's body and proceeds to tear him asunder.
It turns out that the entire set-up came at the hands of Detective Hoffman as opposed to Jigsaw, and he'd rigged the game to be inescapable to gain revenge on Seth for the murder of his sister. As far as revenge plans go, this one takes the crown for barbarity.
