10 Most Gruesome Zombie Movie Deaths

The Evil Dead franchise may have embraced its slapstick influences to the point of complete horror comedy, but Sam Raimi's original video nasty remains the ultimate in gruelling zombie horror. The original cabin in the woods movie, The Evil Dead sees a group of friends - led by the then-unassuming Ashley Williams (Bruce Campbell) - head to a remote cabin for a weekend of drinking, partying and pot. After discovering the Necronomicon Ex Mortis - the Book of the Dead - in the cabin's basement, Ash is the last man standing when his friends are possessed by the horrific evil dead.

As the movie ends, Ash is beset by the remains of his friends. Figuring that the only way to stop them is to destroy the Necronomicon, he hurls the damned book into a blazing fire. In the film's messiest scene, the deadites begin to melt, oozing themselves to death. The horrendously gruesome special effects stand up to this day - in this case, the most gruesome zombie movie death goes to the zombies themselves.
