10 Most Gruesome Zombie Movie Deaths

George A. Romero's sequel to his iconic Night of the Living Dead utilised its full colour palette (following in the footsteps of his black and white classic) to graphic effect. And nowhere did the film take advantage of its colours more than in the unctuous blood and gore. Dawn of the Dead's grisliest gore gag is a simple but haunting one.

As America is overrun by the zombie hordes, a squad of cops attempt to fight their way through an overrun apartment block. During the cops' initial incursion, one of the apartment dwellers unwittingly runs face first into the jaws of an oncoming zombie. The resulting attack is deceptively simple - the zombie leans in and bites a chunk of bloody red meat out of the poor woman's shoulder. The resulting shot - the stuff of nightmares - is one of the most important images in all of zombie cinema. The camera lingers.
