8. Sersi & Ikaris' Romance (Eternals)
Boring has rarely ever been a word you could associate with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even the bad movies were never truly boring - though Thor: The Dark World had its moments - but in 2021 Eternals did its very best to break this streak.
The movie itself was criticised far too harshly, and while it may have fallen short of many fans’ expectations, it was by no means a bad movie. However, it was WAY too long, with the history of Sersi and Ikaris’ relationship being the epitome of dead weight. Far too much time was dedicated to sharing their backstory, something that didn’t need to be done.
They used to be married, and after a few thousand years Ikaris left, there literally didn’t need to be any more exposition. Instead, it was explored to the kind of depths few other romantic relationships ever have been in the MCU, even to the point of a sex scene, if you could call it that.
Even with this deep look into the past, neither Sersi or Ikaris could be saved from arguably being the two most underdeveloped characters in the entire movie, so why bother wasting everyone’s time with this part of the story?
