7. Revival – WALL-E

Han Solo Death
Disney Pixar

Is there anything Pixar can't do?

In 2008, they tried their hand at sci-fi, and they absolutely swung for the fences with WALL-E, the tale of a lone robot programmed to tidy the Earth after humans have entirely filled it with refuse.

Little WALL-E has kept on with his task, spending his lonely days cleaning up after the long-absent human race, collecting interesting items as he does so. Upon finding a single plant, he's launched into an adventure with EVE, a robot sent to bring the plant back to the morbidly obese humans floating through space on the starliner Axiom.

When a malicious AI attempts to prevent the humans from returning to Earth, WALL-E comes to their rescue, sacrificing himself for the future of the human race.

It's later revealed that EVE has painstakingly fixed WALL-E, although upon activating him, she finds he's lost the personality that she loved. Crestfallen, EVE kisses WALL-E, which sparks his memory and brings him back.

It's a happy ending, true, but the emotional rollercoaster the scene takes us on is more than worthy of a place on this list.
