8. Top Gun: Maverick
In 2012, Tom Cruise and director, Tony Scott, met up to discuss the sequel to Top Gun, which helped define their careers. Two days later, Scott inexplicably took his own life, seemingly ending any chance the follow-up had of becoming of seeing the light of day.
But after another decade of waiting, Top Gun: Maverick has become a reality. When you look back, there's a lot of reasons to love this classic film. It's one of the most 80s movie ever, helped cement Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer's careers, and has some of the most iconic lines of the decade.
But since Top Gun is such a product of its time, you can't help wondering if a sequel would work in a modern world. The cheesy banter and Kenny Loggins' Danger Zone was awesome back in the day but would feel dated and cringeworthy by today's standards.
But based on early reactions, these concerns are unwarranted. After being screened at CinemaCon, Top Gun: Maverick received overwhelmingly positive reviews, with critics regarding it as a perfect blockbuster.
