7. Watership Down (1978)
Yeah, so, this one.
Watership Down, based on the brilliant novel by Richard Adams, tells the epic story of some rabbits who go on a perilous journey to find sanctuary when one of them (who is psychic) has a premonition about the destruction of their warren. Don't worry: it makes sense when you see it. Anyway, it's a wonderful book - a genuine literary gem - and the movie is good, too. It will also haunt you forever, though, 'cause 1978.
Watership Down, despite being obviously attractive to children with its cutesy rabbit characters, doesn't give two about your precious innocence... it wants you to know that these rabbits are probably going to die, and hey, why don't you watch one of them dying now? There we go... look at this one, choking on some barbed wire. What's that white stuff coming out of its mouth, you ask? It's death, Timmy. And don't you dare close your eyes.
