10 Most Hotly-Anticipated Historical Films Still To Be Released In 2015

2. In The Heart Of The Sea

"Titanic" may have won 11 Academy Awards but it proved to be a horror show for all history aficionados due to its inaccuracies and lovey-dovey lead theme - so let's hope that "In the Heart of the Sea" can do a better job of depicting a real-life sinking of a ship. Unfortunately the early promo-release shots of the film do not look promising due to the fact people are shown swimming above a huge whale that wouldn't look out of place in a sea-dwelling version of "Jurassic Park" - but this does bear some resemblance to the actual story. Based on Nathaniel Philbrick's 2000 non-fiction book of the same name, this film will tell the story of the sinking of the whaleship "Essex" in 1820 by a sperm whale in the South Pacific Ocean. Eight members of the crew survived after months at sea, and this story inspired Herman Melville's famous 1851 novel "Moby-Dick". Due for release in December, director Ron Howard has chosen a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth (as Owen Chase, the First Mate), Benjamin Walker (as Captain George Pollard Jr), Cillian Murphy (as Matthew Joy, the Second Mate) and Tom Holland (as Thomas Nickerson, the Cabin Boy) to portray this story - which also sees the protagonists forced to resort to cannibalism in order to survive. Let's hope this film is not merely style-and-CGI-over-substance and that this dramatic historical tale gets the brilliant screenplay it most certainly deserves.
