It was only a matter of time before Edward Snowden became the focus of a screenplay once he began leaking National Security Agency (NSA) information to the media in June 2013 and then fled America for asylum in Russia - and film fanatics will be able to see the screenplay of this controversial story as of Christmas Day in the USA. Computer professional Snowden worked for the CIA, Defense Intelligence Agency and then for Dell as a contractor to the NSA before releasing thousands upon thousands of classified documents to the press, revealing numerous global surveillance programs. Labelled as a "hero" by some, a "whistleblower" by others, and a "traitor" by many, the tale of Snowden and his flight to Moscow's Shermetyevo International Airport should make for a dramatic American biographical political thriller - attempting to explain the reasons behind why Snowden chose to leak the classified information. Directed by military-veteran Oliver Stone, who specialises in creating dramatic political thrillers, "Snowden" stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the lead role, as well as the the likes of Nicolas Cage, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson and Melissa Leo - and it will be out at the height of the festive season.
