10 Most Iconic Sci-Fi Movie Characters Of All Time
8. Iron Man
In the early 2000s, Iron Man was nothing more than a comic-book character occasionally featured in animated television shows and god-awful live action Avengers movies. Then Marvel decided they wanted to step things up a few notches, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe was born, with Iron Man front and centre.
With a charismatic performance from Robert Downey Jr. and the head-bobbing rework of Black Sabbath, Iron Man was the shot in the arm the superhero genre needed and was the start of one character’s cinematic journey unlike anything we have ever seen on the silver screen.
Eleven years after his debut, Iron Man nobly sacrificed himself for the fate of the universe, and the weight of his decade spanning character arc was likely scorn into the teary eyes of anyone that watched it. We have witnessed his fights with whip-obsessed maniacs, seen him prove his genius outside of the protective and adaptive suit, and watched mouths agape as bravely went toe-to-toe with an actual Titan.
As the powers of the infinity stones coursed through his whole body, the epic journey of Iron Man has become one of the greatest cinematic moments in recent memory and it solidified the hero as a bona fide sci-fi icon.
