10 Most Important Comic Book Movies Ever Made

1. Batman Begins

Batman Begins

When Christopher Nolan set out to make his slow-burning, grounded and realistic retelling of Batman's famous origin story, little did he know that Batman Begins would become one of the most influential blockbusters of the 21st Century, creating Hollywood's new favorite sub-genre; the dark and gritty reboot.

Although a solid-if-unspectacular box office total of $374.2m was only enough to make it the ninth highest-grossing title of 2005, the movie's approach to the source material served as the template for countless reboots that followed in its wake, not just in the comic book genre.

Members of the creative teams behind Iron Man, Terminator Salvation, Star Trek, Sherlock Holmes, G.I. Joe, X-Men: First Class, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Skyfall, Godzilla and The Amazing Spider-Man to name a small few have gone on record saying their projects were directly influenced by Batman Begins, such is the influence it ended up wielding over studio blockbusters in the years following its release.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
