The movie that led to the resurgence of the comic book movie as one of Hollywood's most bankable genres, Bryan Singer's X-Men was a key component in establishing Marvel as the ones to beat in the realms of superhero cinema, years before the company had even established their own studio.

Not only did it catapult the unknown Hugh Jackman to superstardom and launch a franchise that is still going strong 17 years and ten movies later but the success of X-Men directly led to the rapid-fire development of other Marvel properties including Spider-Man, Daredevil, Hulk and Fantastic Four and served as a wake-up call to Hollywood that superheroes were back, and in a big way.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
