10 Most Improved MCU Characters
2. Thanos
It’s easy to forget that Infinity War was not the first appearance of Thanos, given that we’d seen so little of him in the MCU until then. Aside from a cameo in the first Guardians Of The Galaxy, Thanos had been confined to post-credits scenes that lacked any real impact or context.
After the vaguely threatening ‘fine, I’ll do it myself’, he does very little for another couple of years, and has help from the Children Of Thanos even as Infinity War starts. There was a lot of pressure on him to deliver, and many feared he wouldn’t live up to the hype.
Admittedly, Marvel were on a bit of a villain hot streak going into Infinity War off the success of Hela and Killmonger especially, but Josh Brolin’s Thanos still had a gargantuan task on his hands.
First, he had to seem so threatening and imposing that audiences would believe he could win; not an easy ask when the entire weight of the MCU’s roster was being thrown at him. Secondly, he also had to be well rounded and developed in a movie with a massive cast full of characters much more popular than him.
Amazingly though, he pulled it off. Considering Infinity War was actually the fourth film he was in, he’s definitely a late bloomer.
