10 Most Influential Sci-Fi Films Of All Time
3. Tron (1982)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 70%
Without Tron, there would be no Toy Story. These are the words of former Disney animator John Lassester, who admitted that Tron allowed him see the potential of computer-generated imagery in the production of animated films. His passion for the project (and the disapproval of Disney's top cell animators) ultimately got Lasseter fired.
It was a move that the Mouse House would eventually come to regret, as Lasseter went on to become the creative force behind Pixar, whose catalogue of computer animated films have grossed in excess of $10 billion at the worldwide box office. Chris Wedge, who worked as a scene coordinator on Tron before being shown the door by Disney, pulled a Lasseter himself and went on to create the profitable Ice Age movies with Blue Sky.
Being responsible for Pixar existing is enough to call Tron one of the most influential sci-fi movies ever made, though the film went on to inspire creative minds from all walks of life. Numerous high-end fashion designers have been influenced by Tron's wardrobe, with light cycle inspired cargo pants, handbags modelled after identity discs and laser cut dresses all being considered must-have items when Opening Ceremony released a line inspired by the film in 2010.
