10 Most Insane Movie Leaks Ever

7. Expendables 3

THOR RAGNAROK LEAK
Lionsgate

Sylvester Stallone’s film franchise starring all your dad’s favorite actors came to an abrupt end when the third installment bombed? tanked? Uh, did the thing it was not expected to do at the box office.

After the surprise success of the first in the series, the second came out to rather “meh” response, although it made enough money to warrant a third reteaming. This time around, in the interest of appealing to a broader audience, Sly’s gathering of yesteryear’s action stars went for a PG-13 rating. The film was leaked online a early as a month before its opening. On the first day it was downloaded over 190,000 times, and within a week it was estimated to over 2 Million—that’s a lot of dads.

Lionsgate, which distributed the film, blamed the leak on its poor box office results. Market researchers instead believed that the old-school actioner had no chance against its opening weekend competition: Guardians of the Galaxy and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Lionsgate kept making a big stink about it, so The New York Times crunched the numbers and ran an article stating that even if everyone who downloaded the film had bought a ticket, Expendables 3 still wouldn’t have topped the box office.
