After the first X-Men trilogy came to its end back in 2006, 20thCentury Fox decided the next step in the franchise would be to give us spinoffs of several of its major characters. The first in store for us was naturally everyone’s favorite, Wolverine. However, the film had a troubled production involving creative differences and studio executives ordering changes, so what we got was a film that doesn’t quite know what it’s supposed to be.

Back in 2009, a few months before its scheduled opening, a cut of the film without most of the special effects being finished was leaked online. It’s estimated to have been downloaded 4.5 million times before the film even opened.

The movie was still a hit, but it was embarrassing for Fox, and led to early word-of-mouth that it wasn’t very good. People still showed up to see it, so maybe since the special effects weren’t finished, people just wanted to see how awful those CGI claws turned out.
